The Koforidua Secondary Technical School was established in September 1967.

Most of the present infrastructure including the dormitories, the main classroom block, the seventeen bungalows, the Dining/Assembly hall, the Administration block, the garages and many others served as a Gliding school before September 1967 in the Nkrumah regime.

With the coup d’etat of 1966 and the overthrow of the Nkrumah regime, the military government of the National Liberation Council (NLC) decided to discontinue with the Gliding school and the place converted to a Secondary a school.

At the time, there was a strong desire to produce more science students with some knowledge in technical subjects at the secondary school level to feed the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and also the Kwame Nkrumah University College of Science education, now University of Cape Coast. It was felt that special schools should be established in that regard. Ghana Secondary Technical School, Takoradi was the first of such schools, followed by Suhum Secondary Technical School. Koforidua Secondary Technical School became the third to be established with the name Ghana Secondary Technical School, Koforidua. That name was changed to the present Koforidua Secondary Technical School in 1969with the first change in the headship of the school.

In 1967 Mr. Mac Bruce, a Principal Education Officer at the Eastern Regional Education Office was appointed Headmaster to start the school in September. After laying a firm foundation for the school, he was transferred to Suhum Secondary Technical School. Mr. S.R.R. Croffie assumed duty in September 1969 to continue from where Mr. Mac Bruce had left off.

Mr. Croffie built the school to the stature it now has. Because of impressive academic performance of the school, it was quickly granted sixth form status in September 1974. The relatively young school became noted for academic excellence.

The school has had eight Headmasters since it’s inception with four others as acting Headmasters at different times.

The school had a lot of infrastructural development during the headship of Messres S.R.R. Croffie and J.Y. Bedjabeng. In view of it’s excellence and hard work, the school attained the accolade “Eastern Varsity” with the slogan “Educate for Service”.

In January 2001, Mr. Seth Adu, a former head of Kwahu Ridge was transferred to Koforidua Secondary Technical School to assume office. The school can now boast of a population of thousand five hundred students with the vision of having more than two thousand students in a few years to come due to the developmental expansion plans in the pipeline.
